Beaver Dam Daily Citizen Wednesday, February 27, 2019 A3 00 1 LOCAL The Beaver Dam Police Department will hold its 16th Citizens Police Acad- emy with 13 classes from 6-10 p.m. Mondays, March 4 to May 20, with one class from 6-9 p.m., May 7, and one from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., May 11, at the police depart- ment, 123 Park Beaver Dam. There is no charge to participate in this program, but space is limited to 12 participants. A graduation banquet will follow.

Applicants must be 18 years of age or older to ap- ply. Preference will be given to those that reside in Bea- ver Dam, work in Beaver Dam, or own property in Beaver Dam. The police de- partment reserves the right to accept or deny any ap- plication. Any citizen with a valid license and no criminal background are encouraged to apply. The deadline to apply is today.

Application packets can be picked up at the Beaver Dam Police Department. For more information, contact Officer William Linzenmeyer at the police department in person, by phone at 920-887-4614 or cell 920-382-6529 or email The program will cover a tour of the police depart- ment, firearms training, professional communi- cation, K-9 training, de- fensive tactics, drug in- vestigations, criminal in- vestigations, criminal law, training, patrol procedures, emergency vehicle operations, OWI procedures, accident in- vestigation, school liaison officer duties, administra- tive clerk responsibilities, a tour of the Dodge County Jail and a tour of the Dodge County Court with a circuit court judge. A ride-along of eight hours with an officer will be scheduled during the program. The instructors are Bea- ver Dam police officers and the program is hands-on with an emphasis placed on class participation. This academy is not designed to certify citizens to perform law enforcement services.

Waupun Lions Club offers scholarships WAUPUN The Wau- pun Lions Club is accepting scholarship applications from eligible and inter- ested high school seniors. A two- or four-year renew- able $1,000 scholarship is offered. The applicant must currently live within the Waupun School District and must have attained a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or higher in high school. Selection will be based on a completed application form and an of- ficial high school transcript of grades through the sev- enth semester.

Forms may be submitted at the Guidance Office at the Waupun Area High School or the Central Wisconsin Christian School or submit to Lion Richard Steinbach, 731 Fern Waupun, by April 8. The recipient must be- come a full-time student at an accredited college or technical school and main- tain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. Implement repair business destroyed by fire WATERTOWN (AP) Officials say a large fire at an implement repair busi- ness in Watertown caused about $1 million in dam- age. At least 10 additional agencies helped Watertown firefighters at Waupun Equipment Co. Monday.

Watertown Fire Chief Kraig Biefeld says the source of the fire that destroyed the building was an oil burner. Biefeld says while the cause remains under investiga- tion, it does not appear suspicious. About 45 firefighters were rotated in and out of service at the scene because of the cold temperatures and strong winds. They were on the scene for about four hours.
