in Pardeeville with her parents Mr and Mrs Robert Thayer Mrs Mecham is the former Bonnie Thayer Mr Mecham has completed four years with the US Air Force The Mechams will make their home in San Jose Calif aer their visit here John Rogers son of Mr and Mrs Harlan Rogers 220 Pleasant Street has been named director of industrial relations in the district agency department of the John Hancock Mutual Life Insurance company He will be responsible for labor-management relations for district agency personnel He joined the company in 1959 as assistant director and was appointed associate director in Pardeeville is on the Evan- gel College Springfield Mo list for i 1 fj i t'i FQ ik CAMBRIA The annual Gymanfa Ganu held near Dalton at Bach Rock on Sunday was another long to be remembered occasion The little church built by early Welsh settlers over 125 years ago is surrounded by a grove of trees and adjoining it is the peaceful country cemetery where many of the forefathers of that area are buried The church is no longer used except on the one Sunday in July when it hosts the sing festival at its morning afternoon and evening meetings On Sunday morning the Rev Thademof Pardeeville was the guest speaker there were several musical selections with Mrs Clifford Mays accompanying them Patty Lawson sang the welcome song as she has several times before and there were duets by Mrs Olwyn Welk and daughter Mary Gwen of Ripon and one by Maurice Steely of Wales and Mary Lou Bessac of Dalton During the noon hours a potluck picnic was enjoyed under the trees with some of the women serving tea and coffee The afternoon session was held out of doors in the shade of a large oak A temporary podium had been erected for the leader the chairman and speakers and also served as a choir loft Howell Pritchard of Ixonia was chairman and the director of music was Mrs Olwyn Morgan Welk of Ripon Mrs Catherine Mays played the accompaniment Following the singing of Neal Lloyd of Cambria who is a student in the Pittsburg Theological Semminary spoke briefly and conducted the devotions The choir composed of a group of volunteers then sang At the close of the number Mrs Welk announced that there had been requests from representatives of the Milwaukee Folk Fair and from the New Glams Festival for a Welsh Choir to appear at both places and invited any interested persons to contact her Four or five groups of hymns were sung during the afternoon Midway in the afternoon several guests were introduced and asked to contribute a few words Among them was Tom Jones who for many years was coach for the track teams of the University of Wisconsin at Madison now retired Jones is a native of the Rock Hill Neighborhood and it was his great-grandfather who donated the land on which the church stands and the area around it He recalled several interesting events of his childhood on the farm near by Other guests were Zaremha a professor from the University of Wales Swansea who is now at the the choir sang her favorite hymns For his homily Father Hastrich chose a text from Proverbs hath I Century owned farm site of Towers family reunion The Towers family recently held its century reunion One farm in the town of Caledonia has been owned by some member of the family for a century This farm was purchased in January 1867 by John and Marion (Shanks) Towers who had been bom and raised in Scotland and came to America in 1850 They resided in a log cabin on the farm and raised a family of six children A son James took over the farm in 1884 and in 1913 his son Wallace bought the farm At the present time it is owned by Mr and Mrs Neil Jensen Mrs Jensen is a great-great-granddaughter of John and Marion Towers The century reunion was held at the farm on Sunday July 23 Mrs Willard
