5A Sunday August 14 1994 touur European! 5 PORTAGE Katie Carlson 12-year-old daughter of Jan and Dave Carlson Portage and Larry Neuhauser 13-year-old grandson of Elfxeida and Larry Neuhauser Pardeeville just returned from a two week European Dance Tour in Paris France and London England Both dancers are members of the Mad City Dancers a dance company located in Madison Members of the company must audition and be selected from the Monona Academy of Dance a based dance school which features dancers from throughout South Central Wisconsin The director and choreographer Jo Jean Retrum produces shows such as The Nutcracker La Fille Mai Gardee and The Peter Rabbit Ballet The Mad City Dancers were invited to perform a show at EuroDis-ney Paris France and the Arche de La Defense or 3rd Arce deTriom-phe in Paris In addition to visiting a local dance school the dance company visited the Eiffel Tower the Louvre Notre Dame Cathedral Montmartre Sacre Coeur and took tt boat trip mi the Seine They also went to a ballet at the Paris Opera Ballet and saw a dance at the newly opened American Center in Paris The group made two excursions into the country side surrounding Paris One day they visited the home and gardens of the famous Contributed photo DANCING DUO TOURS PARS Mad City Dancers (above) including Katie Carlson and Larry Neuhauser took ffieir show down the European road this summer and took time to see the sights such as the Eiffel Tower Kiwanis members welcomed Porta Kiwanis Club recently welcomed two new members to their ornaniza- Si "h0 woris at GeneraI Bectnc and Mary Winkler who works in the child support department at the Portage coulhouse The group membership drive has been spearheaded by Jay West To date the group has welcomed seven new members dents who have become die pen pals of several of the dancers The dancers were able to see their choice of three Andrew Lloyd Webber shows now performed in London and were able to take in many sights They spent time at Madam Toussands Wax Museum the changing of the guard at Bucking-ham Palace the Tower erf London and the Crown Jewels the British Museum Covent Garden Soho and of course the orginal Hard Rock Cafe London The dancers were mi tour from painter Claude Monet at Givemy They saw where Monet painted his famous impressionistic waterlily and flower portraits Another day was spent at the Palace of Versailles built in the 17th Century by Louis XIV From Paris the dancers took a boat across the English Channel at Calais to London The dancers performed at two schools outside London including the Portsmouth Girls SchooL They were greated by the mayor of this Normandy city and were warmly welcomed by the stu and dishes Refreshments will be furnished Games and prizes far everyone SL Briggsvifie
