F' I 4 PORTAGE photo project Coirnty ERICK WAKIAGA DAILY REGISTER Columbia County Department of Land Information is proposing a countywide aerial photography project that could cost the county approximately $500000 over the next three years A decision regarding the possibility of implementing the proposed orthophotography project could come as early as Thursday during a finance committee meeting where proponents of the proposal will lobby for funds to be provided for in the next budget If approved the project would be Clouds and soma sunshine Breeann Bauer Kindergarten PardeeviHe other infrastructure and development trends and growth patterns can be obtained from the project A similar aerial photography project but a less detailed one was done in 1995 by Ayres Associates for about $150000 Columbia County Land Information director Gene Mucciolo said a lot of changes have taken place since then years is a long time and an update is he said want to get more information than they did in the earlier Mucciolo said the proposed project would make detailed land informa implemented in three phases by Ayres Associates of Madison Phase one of the project which would include aerial photographs taken at a flight height of approximately 10000 feet is planned for 2002 and would cost $175000 The second and third phases topographic mapping would be implemented in 2003 and 2004 respectively for $150000 per year Orthophotography combines the image characteristics of an aerial photography with the geometric qualities of a map Information about the exact location of driveways utility lines and tion data available to other county "departments such as highway planning and zoning and soil conservation' Currently highway department personnel drives around to take the measurements for driveway locations Land information and records committee chaired by Claire Robson already supports the proposal Also supporting the project is city of Columbus superintendent of public works Mike Healy Healy who spoke during a land information and records committee See COUNTY Page 2 GOOD morning! president Rick Kleist secured re-election by receiving the two highest vote totals in the April 3 election This was despite the fact Kleist announced in March he no longer wished to serve on the board after completing his current term of office Due to state statuettes governing election ballots his name could not be removed after he filed the papers for re-election Kleist said he only filed those papers because no one else came forward to apply before the deadline Once Kleist announced his intention not to serve the term two write-in eqpdidates began to campaign for the position and one David Knapp is believed to have received the third highest total number of votes during the election But third place isn't sufficient to gain election to the seat and so it seems Kleist is the duly decided agent Amy Blackwood Lee originally contradicted the girl's statement that she rode with Jorgensen for part of the evening of Nov 18 1999 It was on that night while he was on duty that Jorgensen
